Application Story: Proximity sensors and Ziplink modules eliminate 168 termination points in automated test and assembly systems.Products used: Proximity sensors, ZipLink connector modules.
Description: We manufacture a variety of automated test and assembly systems that require proximity sensors mounted on moveable parts where the wiring to the sensors must be able to withstand frequent flexing. In the past we have used robotic wire satisfactorily, however, the wire adds the expense of extra terminal strips, the cost of the special wire, and the time required to make the added terminations. On a recent project, we used 40 proximity sensors (AE and PD) and eight feed-through connector modules (ZL-CM056). The sensor cables are looped across each motion point and terminated to feed-through connectors. In this system we eliminated 168 termination points with this method. Not only was the assembly expense reduced, but the machine is much simpler in operation and future service will be expedited. Prior to implementing this solution, we tested the sensor cable for 1.5 million cycles with no observable degradation in performance.
